Menlo Country Club Job Description Seasonal Lifeguard Salary: $14.00 – $17.00 Hourly D.O.E.
General Summary:
This is a seasonal, variable hour, non-benefited position. Flexible hours, weekdays and/or weekends. Season lasts from Memorial Day weekend (05/27/17) through Labor Day Weekend (09/04/2017). Responsible for enforcing the safety and safe swimming habits of members and their guests as well as supporting all pool programs and policies.
Assigned Duties & Responsibilities:
 Assists with pool admittance ensuring that only members and guests utilize the pool.
 Communicates effectively and hospitability with the management, members and guests.
 Responsible for the enforcement of pool area rules and regulations as established by the
Swim Committee and Board of Directors. Enforces rules as established in the General
Rules.
 Assist with maintaining cleanliness of the pool deck and pool house restrooms. Works
closely, hospitably and cooperatively with the maintenance department to insure proper
instructions are adhered to and that the pool area is kept in a pristine condition.
 Works under the direction of the General Manager and Clubhouse Manager, to ensure
sufficient staffing for swim team events, exchanges, swim meets, swim lessons, kids camp
and all member events.
 Always maintains a friendly, hospitable and helpful attitude with all members, guests and
employees.
 Perform any and all related duties as required and requested.
 Closely monitors and observes the actions of all swimmers to be aware of any potential
danger or unsafe swimming condition or action. Advises swimmers of any wrong doing.
 Issues direct warnings to unsafe swimmers and is empowered to remove any swimmer that is
acting in a manner that is not conducive to safe swimming. Also responsible for enforcing
safe pool deck behavior.
 Responsible for the pool area, equipment and fixtures, filtration system and surrounding area,
with respect to reporting the need for repair and maintenance.
 Responsible for directing members and guests in the case of an emergency such as fire or
earthquake. Responsible for consistently enforcing safe swim and work habits and
discourages any action that could cause an injury.
 Responsible for club property that may include but not be limited to: facility keys, golf carts,
lifeguard equipment, personnel protection equipment and first-aid equipment. Any gross negligence, willful misconduct or dishonesty with club property is subject to financial reimbursement to the club and disciplinary action up to and including possible termination.
 Wear only issued uniforms and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
 Attend all staff meetings, orientations and in-service training.
Qualifications:
 Must be in possession of CPR/First Aid certificate and Lifeguarding certification.
 Must be a competent, skilled swimmer and able to perform water and land rescues.
 Strong hospitality, communication and customer service skills are required.
 Pass background check.
 Must be at least 16 years old.
 Previous lifeguarding/swim instruction experience preferred.
